About us

The Centre Chrétien du Roussillon (Roussillon Christian Centre) is a protestant church, affiliated to the C.E.E.F (Communion des Eglises de l'Espace Francophone) and to the Federation protestante de France.

The church, based on the great principles of the Reformation (faith alone, grace alone and Scripture alone), was founded in 1992 and is in the department "Pyrénées-Orientales".
The church was first based in a building near to the Résidence des Lauriers in Perpignan, but the steady growth in numbers obliged us to move to a new place of worship in November 2000: 2 rue Georges Braque, Perpignan.

For months, many members of the church worked with great tenacity to refurbish the building and make this new place of worship a welcoming and practical area. The main sanctuary can hold up to 500 people and there are offices and other rooms for the diverse activities of the life of the church.

CCR has a senior pastor Robert Heris, and an assistant pastor Moray McKay (a Brit, originally from Scotland). The wife of each of the pastors is fully involved in the life of the church. One in Christian counselling, helping those who have experienced difficult situations, and the other in the spiritual teaching of the children and in the worship group.
A team of Elders and a team of Trustees help with the running of the church which unites around 150 families each week.
And then there are of course the many church members who help in every area possible to enrich the life of the church: Sunday School teachers, homegroup leaders, an Alpha team, musicians, singers, handymen, painters, electricians, gardeners, etc...
Every Sunday, the morning service is celebrated at 9.45am. Approximately 200 people come regularly to this main meeting.
CCR bases its actions on a 5-fold vision, or mission statement:
1), To be INTERNATIONAL. The members of CCR long to live the reality of Revelation 7 v 9 "After this I saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from every nation and tribe and people and tongue, standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb..."
In this age where racism is unfortunately a reality, the members of C.C.R. rejoice in being a community where many people from different nations are represented.

2), The UNITY OF THE BELIEVERS. The Christian Centre welcomes believers from all denominations. The church members pray regularly and with perseverance for the unity of all the Christians in Perpignan and in the department of the Pyrénées-Orientales. The pastors regularly encourage their parishioners to respect and to bless the other churches of the town and the region.
We enjoy inter-denominational meetings which enable us to discover the richness of the Body of Christ and to participate, by His Spirit, in the edification of His Church.
We recognise that the church of Jesus Christ is manifested wherever Jesus is recognised as Lord and Saviour and we underline the statement declared by Martin Luther King:
"The Church is composed of all those who on earth live in the true faith, hope and love, so that the central aspect, the life and the very nature of Christianity is not to be the bringing together of bodies, but the meeting of hearts in the same faith. This spiritual community is entirely sufficient for creating Christianity and therefore the true church."
3) This protestant church aims to make its building A REGIONAL, NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE CENTRE. In the past few years, several conferences have united up to 600 people at a time in this place which continues to be more and more adeptable to welcoming people.
4) The fourth aspect of the church's vision is its HEART FOR THE TOWN. The members of CCR love Perpignan and pray for their town as well as for the politicians, the religious leaders and for all those who are in a position of responsibility or who influence, one way or another, by their decisions and their attitudes, those who live in this area.
The members of CCR are invited to serve their neighbours, especially in involving themselves in organisations which aim to help the community.

5) Finally, the last aspect of these principles, is MISSION. CCR, wants to be a place where missionaries from other countries can come and serve the Lord in France. The main leadership team has at various times been composed of French, British and American couples, CCR also welcomes overseas students who come to France to work with us for the third year of their University language course ("Year Abroad") or students on their Gap Year.
These last few years we have been greatly blessed by these enriching elements.
Mission also means sending out, and we look to send people out into other countries and continents to take with them the beautiful message of the Gospel, helping on a practical level to meet the needs, wherever they go.
The life of the CCR is punctuated with weekly meetings, such as 9.45am Sunday morning for the main service, but also Wednesday evening at 7.30pm for a mid-week service.
No one is left out or forgotten! There are activities for the children, youth, the elderly, singles, etc...and those who are new to the church, are invited to follow the Alpha course. We also run "The Marriage Course" - the marriage enrichment course pioneered by Holy Trinity, Brompton in London.
A lending library, with 100s of books is also available to church members.
The essential message that the CCR wants to hold up continually is the love of God for everyone! "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in Him will not perish, but may have eternal life". (John 3v16)
All the actions of CCR, its meetings and projects, are based upon the conviction that only Jesus Christ can bring the true meaning to life, now and forever more!
